TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team wrapped play at its first tournament of the 2025-26 campaign, as the squad competed at the University of Toledo's Everybody vs. Cancer Invitational. The tournament lasted three days (September 19-21) and had matches played at both the UT Varsity Tennis Courts and the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
The Green and Gold competed alongside the University of Chicago, Case Western Reserve University, Holy Cross College, Tiffin University, Youngstown State University, and Toledo.
Freshman
Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland) and graduate-student
Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany) found success in singles competition, as each finished the weekend with a 4-0 match ledger, while
Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany), and
Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany) both posted a 3-1 mark.
In doubles competition, the duo of Wasner and
George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom) collected a 3-0 record, the pairing of Mathys and
Sam Knowles (North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England) notched two wins, while
Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia) and Klaus nabbed a victory.

The Green and Gold men's tennis squad will next compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships this coming weekend (September 27-29). This year's ITA Midwest Regionals will be hosted by GLIAC rival Grand Valley State University, in Allendale, Mich.
