Thompson Named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week

DETROIT -- Wayne State University senior forward Taylor Thompson (Grand Blanc, Mich.) has been selected Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time in her career, and second time this season as announced by the league office.

Thompson earns the recognition after helping the squad to a pair of road wins at Saginaw Valley State (January 2) and Lake Superior State (January 4).  She notched her third-consecutive double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds (eight defensive) to go with a pair of steals in the 77-39 triumph at SVSU.  At LSSU, Thompson nabbed eight boards (five defensive), four steals, and two blocks during the 74-70 win.  Offensively, she scored 17 points and had two assists against the Lakers.

In the second quarter at Lake Superior State, the 2024-25 Second Team All-GLIAC honoree tallied seven points, three steals, and two rebounds as the Warriors built a 13-point lead entering the halftime break.

The women's basketball team will remain on the road, as the Warriors travel to Allendale, Mich., to face Grand Valley State.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
