DETROIT -- Six Wayne State University men's student-athletes were recognized with College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District honors as announced by the organization this afternoon.  WSU sports in the "At-Large" category include fencing and golf.

Nomination criteria includes:
Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

Receiving Academic All-District accolades were senior foilist Mitchell Gatrell (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill), junior foilist Sam Gneuhs (Mason, Ohio / William Mason), senior epeeist Bryce Heim (Oconomowoc, Wis.), graduate student sabreist Eyad Marouf (Alexandria, Egypt), and sophomore foilist Jakub Oronowicz (Clarkston, Mich.) from the fencing squad (Division 1), as well as redshirt sophomore Andrew Daily (Brighton, Mich.) from the men's golf team (Division 2).

Gatrell, who graduated with a 3.59 cumulative GPA in Finance, compiled a 22-22 overall, which includes a 7-8 mark at the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Championships.  He was also an academic all-district honoree in 2024, and is a three-time GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team selection.
