Men's Golf Selected to Compete in NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional

The event will be hosted by Ferris State at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's golf program is heading back to the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time since 2004, as the fields for the four Super Regionals were announced on Sunday evening.  The Warriors will enter as the ninth seed in the Midwest Region.

The NCAA selects 10 teams from each of the eight regions to compete in the postseason in one of four "super regionals," where each region is paired with another to play in a 20-team field.  The Midwest Region will be grouped with the Central Region and hosted by fellow GLIAC program, Ferris State.  The 20 teams and eight individuals not on one of the 20 squads will play at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. on May 7-9.

The number of teams and individuals from non-qualifying teams at each super regional are as follows:
Atlantic and East: 20 teams; 8 individuals;
Central and Midwest: 20 teams; 8 individuals;
South and Southeast: 20 teams; 8 individuals; and
South Central and West: 20 teams; 8 individuals

Wayne State placed in a tie-for-15th out of 20 teams at last year's NCAA Super Regional with a three-day score of 885.

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the finals, May 18–22 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada. The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
