LANCASTER, Ohio -- Facing the host and two seed Ohio Dominican for the Bill Blazer Memorial Match Play Championship on Sunday, the top-seeded Wayne State University men's golf team came up short against the Panthers by a final of 3-2.Â
Andrew Daily (Brighton, Mich.) and
Jack Julian (South Lyon, Mich.) handled their business while
Grant Ofield (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern),
Josh Lahner (Roselle, Ill. / Lake Park) and
Troy Chapman (Lexington, Ohio) came up short.
Competing as individuals,
Will Pollack (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) and
Luke Maher (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern [SC4])) were both impressive for the Stroke Play portion. Pollack placed second among 18 players while Maher was four spots behind him in sixth.
"We certainly did not execute today coming down the stretch," said head coach
Mike Horn. "Hats off to ODU for playing very well and executing during crunch time. It's always fun to compete against the Panthers. Coach (Chris) Deibel does an outstanding job. Congratulations to Andrew (Daily) for winning all three matches.  And hopefully we can take lessons away from this for the GLIAC Championship in just a couple of days."
