DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's soccer team will officially begin its inaugural season on Thursday, Aug. 27, when it travels to Midland, Mich. to face Northwood University at Dean Soccer Field.  Kickoff in the Warriors' first ever regular-season match is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Warriors enter their first season with a 33-player roster consisting of 17 freshmen and 16 transfers.  Head coach Doug Steinard will lead the program into its first match against a Northwood squad that is coming off a strong 2025 campaign and was picked fourth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) preseason poll.

Northwood finished last season at 11-3-6 overall and 7-2-5 in conference play before advancing to the G-MAC Tournament semifinals.  There, the Timberwolves faced top-seeded Ashland in the semifinal and held the Eagles scoreless through regulation and two overtimes.  The match ultimately went to a 14-round penalty-kick shootout, with Ashland edging the Timberwolves, 13-12. 

Northwood went on to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament, where its season ended with a 1-0 loss to Maryville in the opening round of the Midwest Regional. 

For Wayne State, the inaugural roster features several players with collegiate experience who will help provide a foundation for the new program. 

One of those players is Reagan Brengman, a redshirt-senior defender from Harrison Township.  Brengman arrives at Wayne State after playing at Northwood, where she was a two-year starter for the Timberwolves and earned a spot on the G-MAC All-Tournament Team in 2025. 

The season opener will give the Warriors an immediate test against a Northwood team that returns 26 players from the 2025 roster.
