Women's Soccer Extends Winning Streak To Four Matches With 2-0 Road Victory at Madonna

Mroue and Wessner score first half goals to back the shutout by the WSU defense.

Box Score LIVONIA, Mich. - The first-year Wayne State University women's soccer squad (4-0 overall) completed the non-conference portion of its regular-season schedule with a 2-0 victory Sunday morning at Madonna University (2-3 overall).

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Freshman forward Sienna Mroue (Dearborn, Mich.) scored the first goal of the match in the 33rd minute following a nice pass from junior Jess Clyde (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron [Schoolcraft C.C.]). Mroue, who took a pass just outside the box, dribbled down the left side and beat Crusader goalkeeper Grace McCormick with a left footed shot into the far side of the net.

The goal gave Mroue a four-game goal-scoring streak, and was her second game-winning goal of the season.

Just over nine minutes later, a pass from the left side by redshirt sophomore Addison Ayris (Washington, Mich. / Romeo [Detroit Mercy]) was redirected by graduate student Mairin Wessner (Northville, Mich. [Dayton]) into the near corner. It was Wessner's second goal of the campaign.

WSU had a 4-3 advantage in shots attempted in the first 45 minutes, including a 3-1 edge in shots on goal with redshirt freshman Alice Max (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester [Grand Valley State women's basketball]) stopping the one shot on goal by the Crusaders.

Second Half
Neither team scored over the final 45 minutes as all four of the shots by the Warriors were off target.

Meanwhile, freshman goalkeeper Sydney Goldman (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) stopped all four Crusader shots in the second half in her collegiate debut.

The clean sheet was the fourth consecutive by the WSU defense as Wayne State has out-scored its opponents 9-0 through 360 minutes of action this season.

The Warriors had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Information
Max (1-0) made one save in the first half, while Goldman stopped four Madonna shots. McCormick had one save for Madonna in the opening 45 minutes, while Addison Beil did not face a shot on goal in the second half.
