DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's soccer program (4-0 overall) will begin GLIAC play for the first time in program history with a Friday afternoon match-up at Ferris State (2-1-1 overall).  The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. and video streaming will be available via FloCollege. 

TEAM RECORDS
The Warriors went 4-0 in non-conference play, where offensively they racked up nine goals, while out-shooting their opponents 63-23 overall and 30-12 in shots on goal.  Wayne State remains the only team in the GLIAC to not allow a goal and is one of 15 teams in DII with a goals-against average of 0.00.  Only six of those 15 squads have played more combined minutes than Wayne State.  The Bulldogs enter GLIAC play at 2-1-1 with victories over Southwest Minnesota State (4-0) and Walsh (4-0), a draw against Concordia-St. Paul (1-1) and a loss against Findlay (0-3). 

LEADING THE WARRIORS 
Freshman Sienna Mroue (Dearborn, Mich.) paces all GLIAC players with four goals scored and nine total points.  She is responsible for four of WSU's nine total goals.  Other goal scorers for WSU include Mairin Wessner (Northville, Mich. [Dayton]) and Jenna Moeller (Center Line, Mich. / Warren Regina [Sienna Heights]) with two goals of their own as well as freshman defender Ellie Whalen (Commerce Township, Mich. / Pontiac Notre Dame Prep) netting one goal. 

Defensively, Kate Helfen (Troy, Mich. [Cincinnati]) has tallied a total of 270 minutes in the net with no goals allowed and seven saves.  Redshirt senior and team captain Reagan Brengman (Harrison Township, Mich./ Warren Regina [Northwood]) continues to anchor the Warriors' back line where she leads the team in minutes played (284) heading into GLIAC play. 

Through the first two weeks in program history, WSU has earned two GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.  Brengman played all 180 minutes in the first two contests as the Warriors posted road wins at Northwood (2-0) and Detroit Mercy (1-0).  Whalen tallied the first goal in last Friday's 4-0 victory over Ohio Dominican, while also contributing to back-to-back shutouts of Ohio Dominican and Madonna (2-0).

LEADING THE BULLDOGS 
Ferris State enters GLIAC play with its top three scorers and four of its top six players overall returning for the 2026 campaign.  Offensively senior forward Haley Buckman has led the way for Ferris State with three of the nine goals scored by FSU and has six points to her name.  Senior forward Katherine Welch follows Buckman with two goals of her own.  Together, the two senior forwards can be credited for five of the nine total goals. 

Junior goalkeeper Korinne Ihrke has been the Bulldogs defensive commander in the net with 10 saves and four goals allowed.  Ihrke has started and played all 360 minutes of the four total games this season. 

The head coach of Ferris State women's soccer is Greg Henson, who has steered the Bulldogs to a 75-37-27 overall record in his seventh year at the helm of the program.  Additionally, he guided FSU to earn its first ever GLIAC Championship in the spring of 2021 and has two NCAA tournament appearances under his belt (2021 and 2022).  

PRESEASON POLL
In the 2026 GLIAC Preseason Coaches Poll, Ferris State was picked third and Wayne State was picked seventh out of the 10 teams.

Following the squad's first ever GLIAC game, the Warriors return to Detroit for their first home GLIAC competition in program history on Friday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. vs. Purdue Northwest.
