MEET RESULTS
ASHLAND, Ohio - The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team opened the 2010-11 season at Ashland University on Saturday afternoon. Hillsdale College also participated in the three-team meet.
Among the highlights for the Warriors were two divers qualifying for nationals, as well as
Sara Franklin making an NCAA “B” cut in the 100 backstroke.
Cassie Chetosky, the defending NCAA Division II champion in three-meter diving, made her cut with a first-place score of 283.57 on Saturday.
Emily Mitzelfeld also qualified (266.10) and finished second.
Franklin's qualifier (58.82) came in the first event of the day, as she led off the second-place 400 medley relay with
Kayla Scott,
Agata Zalewska, and
Alex Malfroid.
A group of freshmen performed particularly well in their collegiate debuts.
Paige Kortman won the one-meter diving competition (249.45), Kelsey Dichler (11:03.81) and
Alycen Wiacek (11:12.94) went one-two in the 1000 freestyle, and Scott finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.99), 200 breaststroke (2:33.07) and 200 individual medley (2:16.01).
Catherine Leix finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:19.80) and third in the 200 free (2:00.75).
Wayne State's diving corps will compete at the Clarion Invitational next weekend, while the full squad's next meet is Oct. 30 at Oakland.
