JENISON, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team remains in first place after three days of competition at the GLIAC Championships.
Wayne State has 566 points and an 80-point lead over Grand Valley State (486). Ashland is in third place (414).
The Warriors won two conference titles Friday night, bringing their three-day total to six championships.
Sara Franklin won her third consecutive title in the 100 backstroke, and
Ana Gonzalez Pena earned a GLIAC championship in the 100 breaststroke for the second straight year.
Franklin's first-place time of 53.80 earned her an NCAA “A” cut, broke her own school and GLIAC record of 54.25, and eclipsed her own GLIAC meet record of 56.38. Christina Busquets Garcia finished eighth (58.04),
Alex Malfroid placed 10th and earned a “B” cut (59.21), and
Rebecca Ball came in 16th (1:01.24).
Gonzalez Pena (1:02.97) and
Kayla Scott (1:03.06) went one-two in the 100 breaststroke. Scott also garnered an NCAA “A” cut.
Three Warriors earned points in the 400 individual medley.
Carol Azambuja placed second (4:30.81) and
Kelsey Dischler finished fourth (4:36.50), as both improved their respective “B” times.
Heather Thomson came in 11th (4:43.17).
Agata Zalewska bested her NCAA “B” cut in the 100 butterfly, finishing third (56.86), while
Ashley Corriveau placed seventh in the 200 free (1:55.96).
In the final event of the evening, the 800 free relay of
Catherine Leix, Scott, Corriveau and
Alycen Wiacek finished fifth (7:46.04). Leix's leadoff time of 1:54.05 improved her “B” cut in the 200 free.
The GLIAC Championships will conclude Saturday.
