JENISON, Mich. - After the first day of the 2011 GLIAC Championships, the Wayne State University swimming and diving team is in first place with 112 points. The Warriors have a 44-point lead over second-place Grand Valley State (68).
Only two women's events were held Wednesday night at the Jenison Aquatic Center, the 1000 freestyle and the 200 medley relay.
Wayne State's top five finishers in the 1000 free either achieved or improved upon an NCAA “B” qualifier.
Catherine Leix finished third (10:15.41), followed by
Kelsey Dischler (10:23.78) who also made a “B” cut in the 500 free (5:08.34).
Alycen Wiacek placed fifth (10:29.66),
Stephanie Ekleberry came in sixth (1:032.52), and
Heather Thomson finished eighth (10:37.45).
Michelle Adamic came in 14th (10:51.12) and
Chelsea Lord placed 19th (10:57.63)
Wayne State took first place in the 200 medley relay, improving its prior NCAA “A” cut (1:42.27). The quartet of
Sara Franklin,
Ana Gonzalez Pena,
Carol Azambuja and
Ashley Corriveau also broke WSU's 2010 GLIAC meet record (1:42.56) and its 2009 pool record (1:44.12).
The GLIAC Championships will continue tomorrow through Saturday.
