Notre Dame, Ind. -- Three members of the Wayne State University men's fencing program participated at Saturday's Notre Dame Invitational.
Quentin Schneider (Gonesse, France) and
Hans Kaiser (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) represented the Warriors in the foil competition. Schneider compiled a 2-2 mark (+1 in touches) during pool play, while Kaiser went 0-4 (-12).
In the round of 16, Kaiser dropped a 15-5 decision to Chris Colley, the No. 4 seed. Meanwhile, Schneider posted a 15-4 victory over Ryan Murphy in the round of 16, then defeated No. 3 seed Andrew McDonald, 15-9, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Schneider was a 15-10 victor over the seventh-seeded Zain Shaito, who previously defeated the No. 2 seed Ariel DeSmet (15-13). Schneider fell 15-6 to top-seeded Gerek Meinhardt in the gold medal bout.
Nick Silantyev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) compiled a 2-2 record in pool play (+2 in touches). Silnatyev suffered a 15-13 setback in the quarterfinals to Kevin Hassett but placed fifth in the final results.
WSU did not have anyone participate in the epee.
