GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's fencing team had five student-athletes earn medals (Top Eight) at the 2026 Central Collegiate Fencing Conference (CCFC) Championships at Denison University on Sunday.
The five that earned medals were
Mahmoud Elsayed (Tanta, Gharbia, Egypt),
Cameron King (Laurel, Md. / DeMatha Catholic),
Eyad Marouf (Alexandria, Egypt),
Lukas Tsao (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), and
Mitchell Gatrell (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill).
MEN'S EPEE
The Warriors had five student-athletes compete in the men's epee portion of the event. Those five were
Justin Chenh (Falls Church, Va.),
Shuayb Dinkins (Kissimmee, Fla. / Lincoln Park / Celebration), Elsayed,
Bryce Heim (Oconomowoc, Wis.), and King.
Elsayed entered the direct elimination stage seeded second after compiling an 11-1 ledger in pool play. The sophomore collected a 15-6 win over Cleveland State's Nolan Giovagnoli in the Table of Eight, a 15-11 triumph over Ohio State's Nowell Gibson in the semifinals, and defeated top-seeded Jakob Stange (Ohio State) 15-7 in the finals bout.
King collected a 5-6 mark in pool play, earning the eighth seed in direct elimination. The Warrior fell in the Table of Eight to the event's eventual runner-up and top-seeded Jakob Stange 15-10.
Dinkins tallied five bout wins in pool play (5-6 overall), with three of his losses being by one touch (5-4). The senior finished ninth, just missing out on the direct elimination stage.
Heim finished 15th overall with a 2-5 record in pools, while Chenh posted a 1-6 mark for an 18th-place finish.

MEN'S FOIL
Six members of the WSU men's fencing squad competed in the foil, as Gatrell,
Sam Gneuhs (Mason, Ohio / William Mason),
Finn McIsaac (West Bloomfield, Mich.),
Jakub Oronowicz (Clarkston, Mich.),
Carlos Santos (Grand Rapids, Mich. / East Grand Rapids), and Tsao all saw action.
Tsao collected an 8-4 ledger in pools (+15 touch differential) to earn the No. 7 seed for direct elimination. The freshman fell 15-8 to the eventual champion Solin Li of Ohio State in the opening round.
Gatrell tallied a 5-7 record during pool bouts to nab the eighth seed in DE. The Warrior was bested 15-7 by the event's top seed, Ohio State's Albert Bagdany, in the Table of Eight.
Oronowicz missed out on earning a medal, finishing ninth overall after posting a 6-6 record in pools.
McIsaac was 14th overall after compiling a 3-9 pool play record.
Gneuhs tallied a 2-10 overall mark, finishing 15th in his weapon.
Santos posted a 1-5 record in pool play, with his lone win coming as a 5-4 triumph over Detroit Mercy's Philip Hunter.

MEN'S SABRE
Six Warriors competed in the men's sabre at the conference championships. Those six were Marouf,
Gabriel Dumoulin (Newtown, Conn.),
Brendan Goeddeke (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren De La Salle),
Hunter Battisfore (Hancock, Mich. / Houghton),
Connor Desautels (Redding, Conn. / Joel Barlow), and
Gwyd Perry (Bloomfield, Mich. / Bloomfield Hills).
Marouf was seeded third in DE after going 9-1 in pool play with an impressive +32 touch differential. In direct elimination, the WSU student-athlete nabbed a 15-5 win over Lawrence's Clarence Murzyn in the Table of Eight before falling 15-9 to eventual champion Carter Berrio 15-9 in the semifinals.
Dumoulin collected a 6-5 record in pool play (+5 touch differential) to finish 10th overall.
Goeddeke went 3-7 overall in pools, earning a 15th-place finish.
Battisfore ended pool play with a 1-4 ledger, finishing 20th overall
Desautels garnered a 1-5 record during pools, wrapping the event in 21st place.
Perry finished tied-for-23rd after posting a 0-6 record, with one of his falters being a 5-4 defeat to LU's Elian R. Freyre de Abdrade.
