CLEVELAND -- The Wayne State University men's fencing squad saw action at the NCAA Midwest Regionals on Sunday, March 8, hosted at Cleveland State University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Men's Sabre
Gabriel Dumoulin (Newtown, Conn.),
Eyad Marouf (Alexandria, Egypt), and
Gwyd Perry (Bloomfield, Mich. / Bloomfield Hills) represented the Warriors in the men's sabre.
Marouf posted a 4-1 ledger in the first round of pool play with a +8 touch differential, then followed with a 6-5 record in the final round of pools (+6 touch differential) for a total mark of 10-6 (+14 touch differential). Â The graduate student garnered a fourth-place finish.
Dumoulin finished ninth overall after going 2-3 in the opening round of pool play and 5-7 in the second round.
Perry fell in each of his bouts, including one falter to Notre Dame's Ahmed Hesham, who finished second.
Men's Epee
The men's epee had four Warriors, as
Justin Chenh (Falls Church, Va.),
Shuayb Dinkins (Kissimmee, Fla. / Lincoln Park / Celebration),
Mahmoud Elsayed (Tanta, Gharbia, Egypt), and
Bryce Heim (Oconomowoc, Wis.) all competed.
Chenh earned a pair of wins on the day, tallying with a 2-7 ledger for a 17th-place finish.
Heim posted a 2-8 record, nabbing wins over Jack Kropp of Lawrence and James Sennewald of Notre Dame, finishing in 18th place.
Dinkins finished 15th overall after posting a 4-6 record, including a win over Maruan Osman Touson of Notre Dame, who finished second overall.
Elsayed finished with a 9-1 bout record.
Men's Foil
A trio of Wayne State student-athletes saw action in the foil, as
Finn McIsaac (West Bloomfield, Mich.),
Jakub Oronowicz (Clarkston, Mich.), and
Lukas Tsao (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) all saw action. Â
Freshman Tsao finished seventh overall posting a 5-7 record in his 12 bouts.
Oronowicz collected three wins in 12 bouts for an 11th-place finish.
McIsaac tallied a 2-10 ledger but lost a pair of bouts 5-4. Â The freshman finished 12th overall.

The NCAA will announce its selections for the 2026 NCAA Championships on Tuesday, March 10, on NCAA.com. The University of Notre Dame will host the championships at the Joyce Center in Notre Dame, Indiana.
