NEW YORK -- The Wayne State University men's fencing squad competed against five schools on Sunday at the New York Invitational.
The Warriors fell in all five meets (20-7 to St. John's, 23-4 versus NYU, 19-8 against Yale, 23-4 vs. Columbia, and 20-7 to North Carolina).
The foilists led the way with 11 victories, paced by sophomore
Quentin Schneider (Gonesse, France), who compiled a 7-5 record. Classmate
Hans Kaiser (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) recorded four victories.
Senior
Nick Silantyev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) led the sabre contingent with five triumphs, while freshmen
Adam Accica (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) and
Adam Kessler (Highland, Mich. / Lakeland) each had one win.
The men's epee quartet posted a 9-36 mark, with junior
Darrin Winston (Redford, Mich. / Thurston) posting five victories. Both junior
Merlin Chappuis (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) and sophomore Stven Kudla (Woodhaven, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard) earned a pair of triumphs.
The Warriors will take to the strips again next Saturday in Evanston, Ill., at the Northwestern Duals.
