EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wayne State University men's fencing squad dropped all seven of its matches on Saturday at the Northwestern University Duals.
The Warriors competed against many of the top-ranked teams in the nation. WSU lost to #1-Ohio State (19-8), #4-Princeton (21-6), #14-North Carolina (21-6), #10-Stanford (22-5), Northwestern (16-11), Cal Tech (14-13) and #17-University of California-San Diego (18-9).
Senior
Nick Silantyev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) finished with the most victories for the Warriors, recording a 13-4 mark in the men's sabre. Freshmen
Adam Accica (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) and
Adam Kessler (Highland, Mich. / Lakeland) each recorded two wins each.
In the men's foil, sophomore
Hans Kaiser (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) finished with a 12-9 record, while sophomore
Quentin Schneider (Gonesse, France) was 10-5 for Wayne State. Freshman
Tyler Gace (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Cousino) also earned a victory for WSU.
Sophomore
Steven Kudla (Woodhaven, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard) had six triumphs to lead the WSU epee squad. Junior
Darrin Winston (Redford, Mich. / Thurston) finished with five wins, freshman
Matthew Hilton (Amherstburg, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova) earned four victories and junior
Merlin Chappuis (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) had three wins for the Warriors.
Wayne State returns to action Saturday and Sunday at the Duke Duals in Durham, North Carolina.
