Day 1 results
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Wayne State University men's fencing squad tallied six points during the first day of competition at the 2013 NCAA Fencing Championships.
The Warriors had two fencers participate in the first day of fencing at the national championships, which is being hosted by Incarnate Word. WSU is currently 19th in the overall standings after one day of competition. The men's squad finishes its bouts Friday before the women are set to compete on Saturday and Sunday.
Sophomore
Quentin Schneider (Gonesse, France) posted six victories in the men's foil after three rounds. He is 6-9 overall and in 15th place out of 24 competitors in the foil. Schneider has a -11 indicator through the first three rounds.
Senior
Nick Silantyev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) is the other competitor for WSU at the NCAA Championships. Silantyev didn't post a victory during Thursday's rounds as he finished with a -42 indicator. He had 33 touches against 75 touches received.
The trip to the NCAA Championships are the second straight for both Schneider and Silantyev. With four fencers overall in the finals, the Warriors have the most participants since the 2008 squad that sent five fencers to the NCAA Championships.
