NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Wayne State University men's fencing squad lost all six matches at the DeCicco Duals hosted by the University of Notre Dame on Jan. 16. The Warriors competed against No. 2 Notre Dame (2-25), Lawrence (6-21), Florida (4-23), Detroit Mercy (7-18), Sacred Heart (4-23) and New Jersey Institute of Technology (3-24).
EPEE- Freshman
Brenton Villeneuve (Clarkston, Mich. / Graded School of Sao Paulo) posted a 3-14 dual record, including match wins against Lawrence, Florida and Detroit Mercy.
FOIL - Sophomore
Peter Wachowiak (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) led Wayne State in the foil division with a 3-15 mark, while freshman
Carlo Martinez-Bernal (Macomb, Mich. / Dakota) went 1-17.
SABRE - Sophomore
Ziad Elsissy (Alexandria, Egypt) notched a 16-2 dual record, including 3-0 marks in against four of the six other schools. Classmates
Robin Nickell (Portage, Mich. / Central) and
Michael Karpinski (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / North) went 2-16 and 0-18, respectively.
UP NEXT - WSU will compete at the New York University/St. John's Invitational in Jamaica, N.Y. on Jan. 24.
