DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's and women's fencing programs will host the Istvan Danosi Open on Dec. 11th at the Mort Harris Recreation & Fitness Center on the WSU campus.
Competition begins at 8:30 a.m. with pool play, followed by direct elimination and an award ceremony. Medals will be awarded for the top three finishers in the epee, foil and sabre for both men's and women's fencers.
Sophomore
Ziad Elsissy (Alexandria, Egypt) won his second-straight gold medal in the senior men's sabre division. Junior
Zuzanna Sobczak (Gdansk, Poland) finished first in both the senior women's epee and foil divisions, while sophomore
Julie Saint-Cricq (Pau, France) won the senior women's sabre division.
The third annual Wayne State fencing alumni meet is slated for the day prior, on Dec. 10 at 3 p.m., inside the MHRFC. Before the alumni meet, the fencing programs will host its annual Fencing Frenzy inside the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center.
The Frenzy is set to begin at 11 a.m. with admission for WSU students and faculty for $5, $10 per adult (18+) or $20 per family. Cash, credit card or checks will be accepted but please make checks payable to "Wayne State University."
Fans can participate in a raffle, silent auction or challenge your friends and family to a dual. The Warrior fencing program will provide fencing equipment, snacks and drinks.
Parking will be available in structure #2 or #5 on Anthony Wayne Drive, along with metered parking on Cass or Warren Ave.
