J.V. Women's Basketball Defeats KVCC, 102-63

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University junior varsity women's basketball squad won its final exhibition game, 102-63, on Thursday against Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

The Warriors outscored the Cougars in each of the four quarters (29-15, 23-15, 25-17 and 25-16).

Junior Sadia Johnson (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Central) led WSU with 27 points, followed by freshman Sam Cherney (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) with 23 points. Johnson was seven-of-seven from the charity stripe as Wayne State shot 85 percent (23-of-27) on free throws.

Seniors India Hawkins (Detroit, Mich. / Edison Public School Academy) and Jessica Murphy (Oxford, Mich.), and redshirt sophomore Chavon Tiggs (Flint, Mich. / Dearborn Heights Robichaud) also recorded double figures. Hawkins scored 16 total points (including two three-pointers), Murphy earned 12 points (with three three-pointers), and Tiggs scored 11 points.

Also adding to the scoreboard was redshirt senior Liza Torgerson (Barrett, Mich. / West Central Area Secondary) with nine points and sophomore Carson Wilson (Flushing, Mich.) with four points.

The Warriors will travel to Port Huron, Mich. to play St. Clair County Community College in their official season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 13.
