J.V. Women's Basketball Wins 71-41 in Season Opener

PORT HURON, Mich. -- The Wayne State University J.V. women's basketball squad (1-0 overall) defeated St. Clair County Community College (1-3 overall) in its season-opening contest.

The Warriors stayed ahead of the Skippers throughout the entire game, with the largest lead of 33 points in the fourth quarter (4:17).

Sophomore Tori Perez (Belleville, Mich.) led WSU in points, recording a total of 19. She also garnered seven rebounds and five assists.

Junior Lyndsey Matus (Millbury, Ohio / Toledo Central Catholic) followed shortly behind with 18 total points. Additionally, she tallied four rebounds and one steal.

Redshirt Sophomore Chavon Tiggs (Flint, Mich. / Dearborn Heights Robichaud) scored 13 points for the Warriors and grabbed four rebounds.

Freshman Grace George (DeWitt, Mich.) recorded a game-best 15 rebounds. She also scored 11 points and tallied two steals.

Wayne State will host Wayne County Community College on Monday, Nov. 19, at 7:15 PM for the next contest.
