DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving squad notched victories over Tiffin (163-23) and Davenport (137-100) in its home-opening meet at the Matthaei Natatorium on Friday.
The CSCAA/TYR Top 25 Division II Preseason Poll was released on Wednesday, Oct. 16th, tabbing the WSU women 12th in the nation. The top 11 teams include: Queens-Charlotte, UC San Diego, Drury, Nova Southeastern, West Chester, Tampa, Indianapolis, Lindenwood, Wingate, Colorado Mesa, and Delta State. Following the Green and Gold is GLIAC opponent Grand Valley State, which is tied-for-13th with Sioux Falls.
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Junior
Amanda Hurchalla (Mount Clemens, Mich. / Fraser) claimed first place in the one-meter dive (261.70 points) and the three-meter diving event (273.90), both exceeding NCAA-qualifying standards.
Senior
Mia Teifer (Trenton, Mich. / Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central) also met NCAA standards after placing second in the three-meter dive with a score of 265.75 points.
Freshman
Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) earned the top spot in both the 200 free (1:58.62) and the 200 back (2:03.41).
Junior
Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) notched a victory in the 200 IM (2:12.31). Koh also swam the fastest time in the 200 breast (2:23.66)
Senior
Aliza Durack (West Bloomfield, Mich.) tallied a win in the 50 free with a time of 25.41.
Junior
Haley Groteler (West Ottawa, Mich.) finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:14.29.
Freshman
Marina Tarlev (Athens, Greece) earned a first-place finish in the 100 free (54.32).
Junior
Sophie Montesanti (Howell, Mich.) was the runner-up in both the 1000 free (11:03.57) and the 500 free (5:23.51).
RELAY RESULTS
Wayne State notched a victory in the 400 medley relay (3:59.52). The winning quartet included senior
Ashlen Michalski (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) as the lead off, Koh, Groteler, and Durack as the anchor.
The fastest 400 free relay (3:37.51) group consisted of sophomore
Julia Brunner (Traverse City, Mich. / St. Francis), Groteler, Michalski, and Tarlev.

WSU will host the Division I Golden Grizzlies in a 5:30 p.m. meet against Oakland on Friday, Oct. 25th.
