Women's Swim and Dive Tops SVSU, 162-125

The Warriors will host Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team notched a 162-125 victory at Saginaw Valley State on Friday evening.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Junior Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) claimed first place in the 100 breast (1:07.15) and in the 200 breast (2:26.00). Senior Kate Svisco (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) was the runner-up in the 200 breast with a time of 2:33.64.

Koh also swam the fastest time in the 200 IM (2:13.33), with freshman Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) (2:15.66) and Svisco (2:17.62) trailing shortly behind.

Junior Haley Groteler (West Ottawa, Mich.) notched a victory in the 200 fly (2:11.65), followed by sophomore Julia Brunner (Traverse City, Mich. / St. Francis) in second place (2:14.48) and freshman Abby Warner (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) in third place (2:17.75).

Groteler also claimed the top spot in the 100 fly (59.49), with Brunner in second place (1:00.05).

Senior Ashlen Michalski (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) earned the top spot in the 100 back (58.80), with sophomore Sydney Balk (Farmington, Mich.) finishing in third place (1:04.90).

Senior Aliza Durack (West Bloomfield, Mich.) placed first in the 50 free (25.26), with freshman Marina Tarlev (Athens, Greece) finishing in third place (25.62).

Junior Amanda Hurchalla (Mount Clemens, Mich. / Fraser) earned first place in the one-meter dive (254.65 points) and in the three-meter dive (258.15 points). Senior Mia Teifer (Trenton, Mich. / Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central) was the runner-up (241.40 points) in the one-meter dive and placed third in the three-meter dive (232.05 points).

Fox claimed the top spot in the 200 back (2:06.68), with Michalski serving as the runner-up (2:10.85).

Redshirt junior Allison Lennig (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) finished second in the 200 free (2:02.28), followed by Tarlev in third place (2:03.15).

Fox was the runner-up in the 1000 free with a time of 10:53.13.

Tarlev placed second in the 100 free (54.98), with Lennig finishing in third (55.28).

Junior Sophie Montesanti (Howell, Mich.) completed the 500 free in third place with at time of 5:26.78.

RELAY RESULTS
WSU notched a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:48.20). The winning quartet included Michalski as the lead off, Koh, Brunner, and Groteler as the anchor.

Wayne State also had the fastest 200 free relay (1:39.39). The group consisted of Groteler, Brunner, Michalski, and Fox.

"I was overall pleased about our performances," commented head coach Sean Peters. "It was our first competition in over a month, and it was great to get on the road and race. It was a good starting point, but we will need to strive at our next 2-3 meets to execute at a higher level, in order to progress to the standards we wish to rise to at the end of the season. We are working towards those standards on a daily basis, and I feel good that we are getting closer to having those breakthrough performances."
