2020 Swimming and Diving Seniors
A total of nine seniors were recognized at the meet.

Women's Swim and Dive Falls 171.5-127.5 to GVSU on Senior Day

Both Mia Teifer and Amanda Hurchalla earned NCAA B-cuts in the one-meter dive.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team was upended, 171.5-127.5, by Grand Valley State at Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.

SENIOR RECOGNITION
Five Warriors competed in their final home meet of their collegiate career.  The swimmers and diver that were recognized on Senior Day include Aliza Durack (West Bloomfield, Mich.), Elizabeth Maraskine (Midland, Mich. / Dow), Ashlen Michalski (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower), Kate Svisco (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) and diver Mia Teifer (Trenton, Mich. / Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central).

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Teifer notched a victory on the one-meter board with 275.40 points, while junior Amanda Hurchalla (Mount Clemens, Mich. / Fraser) served as the runner-up with 265.80 points.  Both Warriors earned NCAA B-cuts for the one-meter dive.  Teifer also claimed the top spot on the three-meter board with 261.08 points, followed by Hurchalla in third place with 255.53 points.

Sophomore Julia Brunner (Traverse City, Mich. / St. Francis) earned a first-place finish in the 100 free after clocking in at 53.72.  Freshman Marina Tarlev (Athens, Greece) finished in third place (54.88) and redshirt junior Allison Lennig (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) placed fifth (55.52).

Michalski tallied a win in the 200 back after finishing in 2:09.95, while freshman Maddy Chorley (Burton, Mich. / Davison) finished second with a time of 2:10.02.  Michalski also tied-for-first in the 100 back (59.01), with Chorley in third place (59.22).

Freshman Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) served as the runner-up in both the 1000 free (10:51.44) and the 200 free (1:59.30).  Lennig finished the 200 free in fourth place, clocking in at 2:00.86.

Junior Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) earned a second-place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.88, while Svisco completed the event in fourth place (1:09.18).

Junior Haley Groteler (West Ottawa, Mich.) placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 59.82.  Brunner came in fourth place (1:00.38), followed by Chorley in fifth place (1:00.65).

Svisco was the runner-up in the 200 IM, completing the event in 2:14.00.  Koh finished in 2:14.22 to land in third place.

Brunner finished the 200 fly in third place, swimming the race in 2:13.85.  Groteler clocked in at 2:14.90 for a fourth-place finish.

Durack claimed the third spot in the 50 free (25.38), while Tarlev placed fourth (25.44).

Koh landed third in the 200 breast with a time of 2:25.97, while Svisco finished fourth after swimming the race in 2:31.39.

Fox swam the 500 free in a time of 5:18.07, which earned her a third-place finish.

RELAY RESULTS
WSU notched a victory in the 400 medley relay after clocking in at 3:59.34.  The quartet consisted of Michalski as the lead off, Koh, Groteler, and Brunner as the anchor.

Wayne State claimed the second spot in the 400 free relay, finishing in 3:38.17.  The group included Groteler, Tarlev, Michalski and Fox.

"I am so proud of our Warriors," commented head coach Sean Peters.  "They did everything that a great team does... swam hard, performed well, had a great time together, and competed with honor.  I am also so proud of our seniors and of the leadership and contributions that they brought to this team.  They are truly a magnificent group.  It is a great day to be a Warrior!"

The Warriors will compete in the 2020 GLIAC Swimming and Diving Championships, beginning on February 19th.
