Men's Golf Moves Up Leaderboard on Final Day of Motor City Invite

Three Warriors finished in the top 10.

DEARBORN, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's golf team finished in second place at the Motor City Invitational, which concluded on Monday.  The Warriors shot a 569 (288, 281), finishing five strokes behind the winner.  The 36-hole event was played at TPC of Michigan (Par 72, 7,056 Yards) and offered teams a chance to play at the site of the 2022 NCAA National Championships hosted by WSU and the Detroit Sports Commission.  The Warriors also had a second team competing and that group finished ninth with a 597 (302, 295).

LEADING THE WAY
Sean Niles (Northville, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) was the top Warrior finisher with a 139 (70, 69) and placed third.  Charles Delong of Grand Valley State took home medalist honors by carding a 135 (67, 68).

HEAD COACH THOUGHTS
"This was one of the best events in program history," said head coach Mike Horn.  "We beat many solid teams that are in the top 20 nationally.  There were fantastic individual performances by Sean Niles, Garret Day and Josh DiCarlo.  Great play from Max Lepplemeier and excellent play up and down the entire lineup.  Max might have just completed one of the most consistent fall seasons we've ever had.  I'm very proud of these guys.  These were two weekends that will help define this season.  We should have quite a few positives going into the spring.  One of them will be some votes for the top 25.  This group could become very special."

THE FIELD
Georgia Southwestern won the team trophy by shooting a 564 (288, 276) to edge WSU by five strokes.  The Warriors topped Central Missouri (572), Colorado State-Pueblo (575), Rogers State (579), Findlay (584) and GVSU (589) among others.
