Men's Cross Country Has School Record 13 GLIAC All-Academic Student-Athletes

Program also sets mark for most on All-Academic Excellence squad.

DETROIT -- Thirteen (13) members of the 2020-21 Wayne State University men's cross country squad were recognized with GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) All-Academic accolades.  The 13 recipients eclipses the previous school record of 11 set in 2019.  Over the last 11 years, 72 Warrior men's cross country student-athletes have earned GLIAC All-Academic honors.

Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, and not a freshman or a first-year transfer student.

The school record eight student-athletes receiving All-Academic Excellence Team honors for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were redshirt seniors Ryan Mangulabnan (Livonia, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) and Trystan Thayer (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Central), juniors Tanner Blaney (Swartz Creek, Mich. / Linden), Mitchell Chabot (Fenton, Mich.) and Zahid Salodawala (Romeoville, Ill. / Plainfield East), and sophomores Ransom Allen (Ithaca, Mich.), Jeremy Cavallo (Davisburg, Mich. / Clarkston) and Donald O'Keefe (Troy, Mich.).

Mangulabnan (Chemical Engineering) collects his fourth GLIAC academic accolade, while Blaney (Social Work), Chabot (Finance), and Salodawala (Dietetics) are recipients for the second consecutive year.  Thayer (Dietetics), as a junior college transfer in the fall of 2019, along with the three sophomores - Allen (Mechanical Engineering), Cavallo (Biomedical Engineering) and O'Keefe (Finance) - were recognized in their first season eligible.

The five runners receiving All-Academic Team recognition for having a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 were seniors Sam Borisch (Comstock Park, Mich.) and Tyler Travis (Shepherd, Mich.), redshirt junior Brennan Brothers (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower), and juniors George Drallos (Commerce Twp., Mich. / Lakeland) and Nico Trevino (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage).

This is the third consecutive year that Brothers (Computer Science) is receiving All-Academic honors.  Drallos (Exercise and Sport Science), Travis (Public Health) and Trevino (Mechanical Engineering) were each recognized for the second straight year.  Earning All-Academic honors in his first season eligible after transferring was Borisch (Management).

Wayne State shattered the previous mark of 206 Academic All-GLIAC honorees set in 2019-20 with 253 for the 2020-21 academic year.  WSU has produced 1,694 Academic All-GLIAC recipients over the last decade.
