Men's Golf in Fourth After Round One at SVSU

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's golf team was in action on Saturday at the Al Watrous intercollegiate hosted by Saginaw Valley State. The Warriors shot a 289 and are in fourth place in the 15-team field. The two-day event is being played at Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course (Par 72, 6,933 Yards).

LEADING THE WAY
Josh DiCarlo (Amherstburg, Ont. / General Amherst) was WSU's top performer, shooting a 71 and is tied-for-10th. SVSU's Jiseung Choi is atop the leaderboard with a 68.

THE FIELD
Findlay is the low team with a 284, while Grand Valley State (286) is second) and Northern Michigan (287) is two strokes better than the Green & Gold. Chasing the top four teams are SVSU (290), Ashland (291) and Northwood (295). The rest of the field includes Tiffin (298), SVSU B-team (299) Davenport (303), Northwood B-team (304), Walsh (305), Lake Superior State (305), Ferris State (307) and Parkside (309).

WSU RESULTS
Matt Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) and Garret Day (Chatham, Ont. / Ursuline College Chatham) are tied-for-15th with matching rounds of 72.

Mat Hawryluk (Chatham, Ont. / Ursuline College Chatham) carded a 74 and is tied-for-30th with 18 holes to play. Ian Smith (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) rounded out the starting five with a 78.

Wayne State had four competing as individuals led by Max Lepplemeier (Wauseon, Ohio / Pettisville) who posted a 72 and is tied-for-15th. Tyler Hurtubise (Essex, Ont. / Essex District) shot a 74, while Alex Saroli (LaSalle, Ont. / Holy Names) and Hayden Chapman (Marshall, Mich.) both finished day one with a 77s.
