ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's golf program started its 2021-22 season with the first two rounds of the GVSU Arendsen Invitational on Sunday. The Warriors are in third place with a 587 (293, 294). The two-day, 54-hole event is being played at The Meadows Golf Course (Par 71 / 7,026 Yards).
LEADING THE WAY
Junior
Josh DiCarlo (Amherstburg, Ont.) led the WSU starting five with a 143 (74, 69) and is tied-for-eighth. The 74-player field is paced by Charles Delong of host Grand Valley State who carded a 138 (70, 68).
THE FIELD
The Lakers lead the team competition as well with a 568 (283, 285). Findlay is 10 strokes better than the Green & Gold at 577 (284, 293). The top five is rounded out by UIndy (591) and Tiffin (596). The rest of the field is comprised of Ashland (598), Saginaw Valley State (600), Parkside (601), Ferris State (601), UIndy's B-team (611), Northwood (614) and Lake Superior State (629).
WSU RESULTS
Redshirt Senior
Sean Niles (Northville, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) posted a 144 (73, 71) and is tied-for-11th with his sights set on another top 10 result after collecting two last season.
Redshirt sophomore
Garret Day (Chatham, Ont. / Ursuline College Chatham) is tied-for-19th with a 147 (72, 75), while redshirt sophomore
Matt Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) shot a 153 (74, 79).
Redshirt sophomore
Alex Saroli (LaSalle, Ont.) finished day one with a 158 (79, 79).
A trio of Warriors competed as individuals led by sophomore
Mat Hawryluk (Chatham, Ont.) who shot a 143 (73, 70) and is tied-for-eighth heading into the final round. Freshman Luke Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) carded a 148 (73, 75) and sits in a tie for 21st. Sophomore
Ian Smith (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) finished his first 36 holes of the season with a 150 (74, 76).
