Women's Indoor Track Competes On Day 1 Of Jet's Pizza Invite

Flowers hits provisional mark in weight throw.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad begins its final month preparing for the GLIAC Indoor Championships (Feb. 26-27) by competing at the Jet's Pizza Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State University. The two-day event will conclude tomorrow afternoon.

PROVISIONAL QUALIFYING MARK
Senior Kaleigh Flowers (Grand Rapids, Mich. / East Kentwood) placed second as she posted the third-best toss in the weight throw in program history going 17.12m on her sixth and final throw. It was the best toss in five years by a Warrior.

Junior Makayla Sumrall (Roseville, Mich.) recorded another provisional mark in the 60m dash winning the prelims in 7.67. She currently has the fastest time in the Midwest Region and the seventh-fastest nationally for 60m.

TOP 10 ALL-TIME SCHOOL MARKS
Junior MaKayla Rawls (Detroit, Mich. / Birmingham Seaholm) set a personal-best with the sixth-best mark in the weight throw in school history reaching 16.50m on her sixth and final attempt.

TOP FINISHERS
Junior Mikayla Williams (St. Charles, Mich.) won the long jump with a distance of 5.39m.

Senior Aliyah McDonald (Kingston, Jamaica) won her heat and had the fourth-fastest prelims time in the 60m hurdles at 8.98.

RELAYS
WSU's two quartets in the DMR placed third (12:58.55) and fourth (13:07.03), respectively. The third-place contingent consisted of junior Katherine Ray (Novi, Mich.), freshman Kynnedee Cowles (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance), sophomore Jillian Vera (Saugatuck, Mich.) and junior Thailyia Christensen (Flushing, Mich.). The other group was freshman Emily Gordon (Northville, Mich.), sophomore Emily Esker (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin), freshman Robin Bresolin (LaSalle, Ont./ St. Thomas of Villanova), and senior Ashley Defrain (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern).

OTHER RESULTS (ALPHABETICAL)

Freshman Jasmine Correa (West Olive, Mich. / Holland West Ottawa) finished 10th in the weight throw (13.10m).

Senior Teanna McCuaig (Sparta, Mich. / Kent City) placed 13th in the weight throw (12.07m).

McDonald finished seventh in the 200m dash (25.66).

Freshman Kay-Lee McSwain (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) placed sixth in the long jump (4.98m) and seventh in the 60m hurdles prelims (9.41).

Sophomore Mikaela Owen (Bridgman, Mich.) tied-for-eighth in the long jump (4.73m), placed 11th in the 200m dash (26.02) and was 14th in the 60m dash (8.12).

Freshman Parys Smith (Keego Harbor, Mich. / West Bloomfield) finished eighth in the 60m hurdles prelims (9.58), 20th in the 60m dash (8.30), and 26th in the 200m dash (27.19).

Freshman Makenzie Wellner (Menominee, Mich.) placed seventh in the long jump (4.92m) and finished 10th in the 60m hurdles (9.88).

Senior Izzy Taylor (Three Rivers, Mich.) finished seventh in the weight throw (14.12m).

UP NEXT
After completing participation in the Jet's Pizza Invite tomorrow, the Warrior will return to SVSU next Saturday (Feb. 5th) for the SVSU Tri-Meet with the Cardinals and Northern Michigan.
