Men's Fencing Has Strong Showing at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wayne State University men's fencing program started its season at the Remenyik Open hosted by Northwestern inside the Ryan Fieldhouse on Oct. 1-2.

SABRE RESULTS
Eyad Marouf (Alexandria, Egypt) won two sabre titles going a combined 18-0 over the two days.

Jacob Bloom (Redford, Mich. / Pinckney) made his collegiate debut and went 0-6 on day one.

EPEE RESULTS
Ahmed Elsayed (Tanta, Gharbia, Egypt) won the individual trophy by going 10-0 on day two.

Sam Garrett (San Francisco, Calif. / San Francisco School of the Arts) competed on both days and went 16-2 overall. On day one he tied-for-third and finished seventh on day two.

Cameron King (Laurel, Md. / DeMatha Catholic) made his debut on day two and went 8-1 to collect a 10th-place result.

Ramadan Dinkins (Chicago, Ill. / GCE Lab School) posted a record of 7-2 to finish 12th on Sunday.

George Varin (Perm, Russia) went 12-5 during his first collegiate action.

Shuayb Dinkins (Kissimmee, Fla. / Lincoln Park/ Celebration) finished 11-5 in his first competition wearing the Green & Gold.

Bryce Heim (Oconomowoc, Wis. / Oconomowoc) won eight bouts and lost eight in his first action of the season.

FOIL RESULTS
Quinlyn Morgan (Olathe, Kan. / Homeschooled / Olathe East) went 6-2 and lost to the eventual champion to finish in 13th place.

Skylar Pitcher (Middleville, Mich. / Thornapple Kellogg) finished in 19th place after going 6-2.

Bobbie Hirsch (Huntington Woods, Mich. / International Academy / Berkley) went 7-7, while Mitchell Gatrell (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill) won a bout and lost five.

Wayne State will be back in action at the Ohio State Open on Oct. 29th.
