Women's Indoor Track and Field Completes Regular-Season At SVSU Tune-Up

Sumrall breaks her own school record in the 60m dash.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad participated in its final regular-season meet on Friday at the SVSU Tune-Up. The next action for the Warriors will be at the 2022 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships next Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 26-27) at GVSU.

60M Dash
Junior Makayla Sumrall (Roseville, Mich.), after equaling her school record mark of 7.57 in the prelims, ran a 7.48 to win the finals. That time is the seventh fastest in NCAA Division II this winter.

200M Dash
Senior Yasmine Affes (Northville, Mich.) led WSU with a sixth-place finish in a time of 26.37. Freshman Renae Kutcha (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi) was eighth (26.64), while classmate Parys Smith (Keego Harbor, Mich. / West Bloomfield) was ninth (26.86). Rounding out the WSU contingent in the event were freshman Makenzie Wellner (Menominee, Mich.) and sophomore Abigail Dunn (Northville, Mich.). Wellner finished 11th (27.11), while Dunn was 15th (27.88).

400M Dash
Sophomore Emily Esker (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin) finished seventh by clocking in at 1:04.32.

800M Run
Freshman Robin Bresolin (LaSalle, Ont./ St. Thomas of Villanova) earned a 13th-place finish in a time of 2:29.67.

Mile
Sophomore Jillian Vera (Saugatuck, Mich.) placed 13th in a time of 5:53.96.

3,000M
Junior Charlene Yarema (Romeo, Mich.) notched the eighth-fastest time in program history finishing second in 10:19.89. Junior Makenzie Wank (Richland, Mich. / Gull Lake) placed 22nd in a time of 11:34.55.

4x400m Relay
The quartet of Affes, Dunn, Kutcha and Wellner posted the seventh-fastest time in school history finishing third in 3:58.15.

60M Hurdles
Senior Aliyah McDonald (Kingston, Jamaica) won the finals in a time of 8.98. Sophomore Macie Ries (Mason, Mich.) placed sixth (9.51), while Smith was seventh (9.47 in prelims).

High Jump
Freshman Lexi Movsesian (Macomb, Mich. / Lutheran North) finished fifth at a height of 1.36m.

Long Jump
Junior Mikayla Williams (St. Charles, Mich.) finished fourth at 5.15m, while Sumrall was sixth (4.92m). Junior Morgan Witzgall (Auburn, Mich. / Bay City Western) placed seventh (4.91m), with McDonald finishing ninth (4.69m).

Triple Jump
Witzgall recorded the sixth-best mark in program history with a distance of 10.53m to win the event.

Shot Put
Freshman Jasmine Correa (West Olive, Mich. / Holland West Ottawa) placed seventh (11.35m), while senior Izzy Taylor (Three Rivers, Mich.) finished 13th (10.10m).

Weight Throw
Senior Kaleigh Flowers (Grand Rapids, Mich. / East Kentwood) led the Warrior quintet with a fourth-place finish with a best toss of 16.58m. Junior MaKayla Rawls (Detroit, Mich. / Birmingham Seaholm) was next at 16.27m, with Taylor finishing eighth (15.01m). Senior Teanna McCuaig (Sparta, Mich. / Kent City) placed 10th (13.04m), while Correa was 11th (12.84m).
