The Warriors are bringing home some hardware to begin the Spring.

JACKSON SPRING, N.C. -- The Wayne State University men's golf program began its Spring schedule on Friday and Saturday at the BrownGolf Intercollegiate.  The Warriors led after round one with a 289 and posted a 292 on Saturday to win the 36-hole event by 13 strokes with a 581.  WSU was receiving votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll.

WSU RESULTS
Max Leppelmeier (Wauseon, Ohio / Pettisville) carded a 145 (72, 73) to finish tied-for-fourth, while Sean Niles (Northville, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) shot a 146 (71, 75) and placed seventh.

Luke Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) competed as an individual but was solid and posted a 148 (76, 72) to tie-for-ninth.  Mat Hawryluk (Chatham, Ont.) also tied-for-ninth with a 148 (75, 73)

Garret Day (Chatham, Ont.) finished his two days with a 153 (79, 74), while Matt Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) shot a 160 (80, 80), playing unattached.

Tyler Hurtubise (Essex, Ont.) was WSU's third individuals and he collected a 160 (78, 82).

COACH HORN'S THOUGHTS
"It's not how big you are but it's how big you play and that is the defining quote to describe Josh DiCarlo's first college win.   Max Lepplemeier had a fantastic showing in his first college tournament finishing in the top five.  Excellent play up and down the lineup from everybody.  Every Warrior contributed and our team score of 581 in awful weather conditions was outstanding.  We beat a really good Davis & Elkins team by 13.  They went to the national finals this past year. Our team overcame many obstacles this weekend to play great golf and not let distractions interfere with their goal."

UP NEXT
The Green & Gold will compete at the SVSU Spring Invitational on March 19-20 in Lexington, Ky.
