Men's Golf in the Hunt at SVSU Spring Event

Sean Niles is tied-for-fourth with a round of 74.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Wayne State University men's golf team started play at the SVSU Spring Invitational in Lexington, Ky. on Saturday and the Warriors are in fifth place out of 19 teams with a 311. The 36-hole event is being played at Kearney Hills Golf Links (Par 72 / 7,023 Yards).

LEADING THE WAY
Findlay posted a 295 to lead the way, while Alex Bishop of Purdue Northwest carded a 71 to lead the field. Sean Niles (Northville, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) is in the mix after his day one 74.

TEAM RESULTS
Along with the Oilers, WSU is chasing Southern Indiana (298), Tiffin (305) and Trevecca Nazarene (308). The Warriors will aim to stay ahead of Northwood (312), Ashland (312), Walsh (312) and Kentucky Wesleyan (313).

WSU RESULTS
Garret Day (Chatham, Ont.) is tied-for-10th with a 75, while Josh DiCarlo (Amherstburg, Ont.) shot a 79.

Max Leppelmeier (Wauseon, Ohio / Pettisville) and Mat Hawryluk (Chatham, Ont.) both posted rounds of 83.

Tyler Hurtubise (Essex, Ont.) is playing as an individual and shot a 75 to tie-for-10th.

Matt Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) carded a 78, while Ian Smith (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) finished his first round with a 81.

Haydon Chapman (Marshall, Mich.) made his Spring debut and shot an 82, while Luke Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) shot an 84.
