Men's Cross Country Participates At Cedarville Track Meet

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Eleven (11) members of the Wayne State University men's cross country squad competed at the 2022 Cedarville Yellow Jacket Collegiate Outdoor Open on Saturday.

Four Warriors participated in the 10K race with Nico Trevino (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) placing fourth in a time of 31:50.86. Ethan Byrnes (Plymouth, Mich.) finished fifth (32:00.03), while Jeremy Cavallo (Davisburg, Mich. / Clarkston) was seventh (32:57.27). Rounding out the WSU quartet was Ulises Rodriguez (Pontiac, Mich. / Oxford) who clocked in at 33:53.00 to place 12th.

All three WSU runners competing in the 1500m event finished in the top five with Ransom Allen (Ithaca, Mich.) taking first place with a time of 4:03.83. Tyler Buchanan (Fenton, Mich. / Linden) placed third (4:05.79) with Carson Nicoletti (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica) crossing the finish line in 4:09.19 for fifth place.

In the 5K race, Trystan Thayer (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Central) led the WSU contingent with a sixth-place finish in a time of 15:23.48. Also competing in the event were D'Anthony Shaw (Romulus, Mich. / Summit Academy North), Corban Hauch (West Olive, Mich. / Zeeland West) and Mitchell Chabot (Fenton, Mich.). The trio posted times of 16:14.33, 16:28.09 and 16:49.52, respectively.

WSU also fielded a team for the 4x400m relay, which placed second in a time of 3:48.30. The quartet consisted of Allen, Buchanan, Nicoletti and Chabot.

In terms of team scoring, the Warriors finished fifth out of 19 teams with 61 points from just four events. Cedarville won the meet with 174 points, and was followed by Walsh (140.5), Lake Erie (74) and Findlay (72). Trailing Wayne State were Hillsdale (44), Mount Vernon Nazarene (27), Northwood (22), Tiffin (21.5), Malone (18) and nine other schools with 16 points or less.
