Ahmed Elsayed Wins Six Bouts on Day One at NCAA Championships

The redshirt junior will fence eight times on Sunday.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Redshirt junior Ahmed Elsayed (Tanta, Gharbia, Egypt) started epee competition at the 2022 NCAA Championships on Saturday morning and went 6-9 during the first three rounds. 

He is in 15th place and carries a -10 touch differential.  The top four will advance to the semifinal direct elimination round.  The four-day event is being hosted by Notre Dame inside the Castellan Family Fencing Center.

Elsayed will compete in the fourth and fifth rounds of round-robin competition on Sunday with hopes of advancing to the direct elimination portion of the event.  He will look to earn his second All-American certificate.  Elsayed finished tied-for-third after going 17-7 at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
