Men's Golf in Sixth After Day One of GLIACs

AUGUSTA, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's golf team started play at the GLIAC Championships on Friday morning.  The Warriors are in sixth place out of 10 teams with a 299.  The top four teams following Saturday's round will advance to medal match play.

LEADING THE WAY
Tyler Hurtubise (Essex, Ont.) is tied for ninth the lead the Warriors with an even-round of 72.  Davenport posted a team score of 281 to lead the field, while Thomas Hursey of Ferris State shot an impressive five-under round of 67 to lead the 50-play event.

TEAM RESULTS
FSU (285) trails Davenport by four strokes, while Grand Valley State (288) is third and Northwood (291) is fourth.  Purdue Northwest (296) is three strokes ahead of WSU, while SVSU (304), Northern Michigan (304), Lake Superior State (309) and Parkside (312) rounded out the field.

WSU RESULTS
Josh DiCarlo (Amherstburg, Ont.) carded a 73 and is tied-for-15th.

Sean Niles (Northville, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) and Mat Hawryluk (Chatham, Ont.) both shot rounds of 77, while Garret Day (Chatham, Ont.) turned in a 79.

UP NEXT
The final 18 holes of stroke play will begin on Saturday just before noon for the Warriors.  WSU will look to sneak into the top four and advance to the medal rounds.
