Men's Golf Has Sights Set on Top of Leaderboard

The Warriors are tied-for-third at the ODU Bill Blazer Memorial.

URBANA, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's golf program started play at the Bill Blazer Memorial on Saturday and the Warriors are tied-for-third, just two strokes back of first place, with a 297. The 54-hole event is being hosted by Ohio Dominican at the Urbana Country Club (Par 72, 6,849 Yards).

LEADING THE WAY
Davenport and Southern Indiana both posted team scores of 295. There is a four-way tie for medalist honors. Sean Niles (Northville, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) is among that quartet with a 72.

TEAM RESULTS
WSU and Grand Valley State both had scores of 297, while Ferris State (301) is fifth.

WSU RESULTS
The Warriors fielded two teams for this event. Garret Day (Chatham, Ont.) is tied-for-fifth with a 73, while Matt Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) shot a 75 and is tied-for-17th.

Mat Hawryluk (Chatham, Ont.) carded a 77, while Josh DiCarlo (Amherstburg, Ont.) shot a 79.

WSU's second squad is tied-for-11th with a 313 and Max Leppelmeier (Wauseon, Ohio / Pettisville) led the way with a 76.

Luke Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) finished day one with a 77, while Tyler Hurtubise (Essex, Ont.) and Ian Smith (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) both tallied a round of 80.

Max O'Rourke (Commerce Twp., Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) rounded out the Green & Gold results with an 82.

The final two rounds will be played beginning on Sunday morning.
