Men's Golf Within Striking Distance with One Round to Play

WSU is tied-for-10th with a 600 (296, 304).

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- The Wayne State University men's golf started play at the NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional on Thursday and finished the second round on Friday morning.  The Warriors are tied-for-10th place with a 600 (296, 304).  The three-day event is being played at Purgatory Golf Club (Par 72 / 7,707 Yards.  The top six teams and top two individuals not on those teams advance to the finals at TPC Michigan in Dearborn on May 16-20.  The Warriors are playing in the NCAA postseason for the 14th time since 2004.

LEADING THE WAY
WSU's top golfer is Sean Niles (Northville, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) who is tied-for-25th with a 148 (74, 74).  He is chasing Charles Delong who has posted a 140 (69, 71).  GVSU is also the top team with a 579 (285, 294).

THE FIELD
The Green & Gold is just five stroke out of the top five and a spot in the NCAA Championships.  Central Missouri (581) is second, while Arkansas Tech (593) is third.  McKendree (594), while and Indianapolis (595) and Findlay (595) are tied-for-fifth.  UMSL (596), Southern Indiana (596) and Trevecca Nazarene (596) are all tied-for-seventh.  WSU is event with Rogers State at 10th, while Hardin (601), Tiffin (602), Henderson State (606) and Northeastern State (606) are close behind.

WSU RESULTS
Both Josh DiCarlo (Amherstburg, Ont.) and Ian Smith (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) has a 36-hole total of 150.  DiCarlo has paired rounds of 74 and 76, while Smith shot a 73 in the opening round before collecting a 77 on day two.

Garret Day (Chatham, Ont.) is at 153 (76, 77), while Tyler Hurtubise (Essex, Ont.) has tallied a 156 (75, 81).

The third and final round will be be played on Saturday morning.
