Pair of Men's Golfers Honored as Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. -- Wayne State University golfers Mat Hawryluk (Chatham, Ont. / Ursuline College Chatham) and Matt Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) have been named a 2021-22 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). It is the first time that either Warrior has earned the accolade.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in there last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Hawryluk, who will be a junior this fall, maintains a 3.4966 cumulative grade-point average through 62 hours, while majoring in Marketing. Pelak was a redshirt sophomore this past academic year and has a 3.7829 cumulative GPA in Mechanical Engineering.

Hawryluk was voted to the All-GLIAC Second Team as well as being named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team. He played in 10 events and 24 rounds with an average round of 74.16. Hawryluk had five top-25 finishes and two top-10 results (tied-for-fifth at the GVSU Arendsen Invitational in September with a 212 (73, 70, 69), then tied-for-ninth at the BrownGolf Intercollegiate in North Carolina during spring break with a 148 (75.73).

Pelak also earned a spot on the All-GLIAC Second Team. Academically, he was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team. Pelak competed in nine events and collected three top-25 results, including a top-10 finish at the Tiffin Kyle Ryman Memorial Invitational with a 215 (69, 73, 73).
