Men's Golf Finishes Third at Doc Spragg Invitational

Max Leppelmeier was the runner-up with a program record 204 (66, 65, 73).

FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's golf program finished third at the Findlay Doc Spragg Fall Invitational on Tuesday with a 850 (282, 278, 290).  The 54-hole event was played at the Findlay Country Club (Par 72 / 6,747 Yards).  WSU was tied-for-second after day one but was unable to keep that pace, finishing 10 strokes behind the team champion.

LEADING THE WAY
Max Leppelmeier (Wauseon, Ohio / Pettisville) set a program record for 54 holes by carding a 204 (66, 65, 73) to collect runner-up accolades.

On Monday, he had a historic day on the course and was the leader in the clubhouse with a 131 (66, 65).  His second-round score of 65 matches the program record for 18 holes, done only once before by Tyler LaSerra on Oct. 23, 2012.  The sophomore posted a 66 during the opening round, which matches the second-lowest 18-hole total in program history.  He becomes the sixth Warriors to post that score and the first since Brendan Seys shot a 66 on Sept. 28, 2019.  The 36-hole tally of 131 is four strokes better than the program record for 36 holes.

In the second round, Leppelmeier recorded an eagle on the fourth hole and collected five birdies, including three straight on holes 13-15.  He is two strokes better than GVSU's Charles Delong.
