Men's Fencing Competes on Day Two of Northwestern Duals

The Warriors wrapped up three consecutive weekends of action on Sunday.

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wayne State University men's fencing team finished their two-day event at the Northwestern Duals on Sunday. The Warriors went 0-3, losing to Stanford (18-8, plus one double forfeit), Ohio State (17-10) and Boston College (19-8) to tally a combined 1-7 record for the weekend.

EPEE RESULTS
Senior Ramadan Dinkins (Chicago, Ill.) had a strong showing in the category, finishing with a perfect 6-0 mark in the three rounds and tallying three bout victories over opponents from Ohio State.

After not competing on Saturday during day one action, redshirt senior Ahmed Elsayed (Tanta, Gharbia, Egypt) saw the floor on Sunday, going 4-2. He had three of his victories over Stanford.

Freshmen Sam Garrett (San Francisco, Calif.) and Cameron King (Laurel, Md.) both claimed two bout wins. Garrett defeated Ohio State's Matthew Bulau and Henry Lange in the fifth round on his way to a 2-3 mark in the category. King was victorious over Ohio State's Bulau as well as Daniel Gaidar from Boston College in the sixth round to finish 2-1 in the weapon.

Also competing was freshman Bryce Heim (Oconomowoc, Wis.). He went 0-3.

FOIL RESULTS
Freshman Mitchell Gatrell (Livonia, Mich.) went 3-5 on Sunday. He claimed one victory in each of the three matches commenced on day two for WSU.

The second foilist for the Warriors was sophomore Bobbie Hirsch (Huntington Woods, Mich.), who finished 0-8.

SABRE RESULTS
After a stellar 12-2 on Saturday, sophomore Eyad Marouf (Alexandria, Egypt) had more success on Sunday, recording a 6-3 record. Marouf was especially strong against Stanford, where he went 3-0.

Garrett (0-3) and Heim (1-5) participated in the sabre as well as the epee. Heim knocked off Boston College's Taras Erachshaw for his bout victory in the category.

Finally, freshman Jacob Bloom (Redford, Mich.) ended the day 0-9 overall.

UP NEXT
Wayne State will not see action again until the weekend of February 25 and 26, where they will compete in the Central Collegiate Fencing Championships in Columbus.
