Drenth and Grey Headline Men's Tennis in Latest ITA Rankings

The duo jumped from fifth-ranked to third-ranked in doubles.

DETROIT -- The newest edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) national rankings was released on Wednesday morning, and the Wayne State University men's tennis team were featured on each of the three lists (national, singles, and doubles) provided by the organization.

Jumping up from the fifth spot to the third spot in the new Top 50 Doubles Rankings from the ITA were the doubles pairing of Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany) and Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany).  The pair have won three of the five contests played thus far in Florida, including a tie-breaking victory over the No. 28-ranked duo from Saint Leo in Vincent Thiel and Ghali Mensour.

The two Warriors have a 10-6 record when playing with each other this season.  They rank just behind Edgar Destouet and Tom Zeuch (No. 1) of Indianapolis and Tomas Descarrega and Facundo Bermejo (No. 2) of University of West Florida.

Same as last week, Drenth and Dom Spicer (London, England) are both present within the Top 75 Singles Rankings.  Spicer fell four spots to 25th-ranked this week, while Drenth is now the 31st-ranked player, down from 25th.

Both members of the Green and Gold picked up victories in the span of the most recent week, with Drenth claiming victory at the No. 1 spot to help Wayne State to a heroic 4-3 match victory over Rollins.

As a team, the Warriors fell 15 spots.  They are now the 28th-ranked team according to the ITA with their 10-7 overall record and 5-6 mark against Division II teams.

Wayne State has one more match in Florida as they will battle against No. 4-ranked Barry on Thursday at 2 p.m.
