Men's Golf Posts Solid Opening Round At NCAA Super Regionals

Burghardt tied-for-seventh after one-under 71 on Thursday.

WINONA, Minn. -- The Wayne State University men's golf team shot an opening round 294 and is tied-for-10th out of 20 schools after 18 holes of the 54 hole NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional being held at The Bridges Golf Course.

Team Standings
Grand Valley State was the only squad under par with a 276 after 18 holes. Findlay and Ashland are at +3 (287), while Davenport and Henderson State are at +5 (289). Central Missouri and Maryville shot identical +8 totals of 292, with Ferris State and Southwestern Oklahoma State just one stroke ahead of the Warriors at 293 (+9). Wayne State and Missouri S&T are at +10 (294).

The top six teams after the completion of Saturday's round will advance to the NCAA Division 2 national championships being held in Warren, Ohio.

Warriors
Redshirt freshman Adam Burghardt (New Baltimore, Mich. / Warren De La Salle) recorded 15 pars, two birdies and one bogey for a one-under 70 and is tied-for-seventh.

Redshirt junior Luke Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) carded a +3 (74) on Thursday and is tied-for-39th. Pelak's scorecard included two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.

Both junior Mat Hawryluk (Chatham, Ont.) and senior Josh DiCarlo (Amherstburg, Ont.) are tied-for-50th after an opening round score of +4 (75). Hawryluk posted one birdie and five bogeys, while DiCarlo managed two birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey.

Rounding out the WSU lineup was sophomore Max Leppelmeier (Wauseon, Ohio / Pettisville). He had one birdie and seven bogeys for a +6 (77).

Wayne State will begin its Friday round at 10 a.m. Central time in pairing with Central Oklahoma and Southwestern Oklahoma State.
