FINDLAY, Ohio -- Finishing up play at Findlay's Doc Spragg Fall Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, the Wayne State University men's golf squad didn't win for the first time this season. After four consecutive team titles to begin the 2024-25 campaign, the Warriors placed fourth in a 19-team field after a three-round score of 868 (+4, 281-294-293), just six strokes out of second place. Individually, WSU was paced by
Andrew Daily (Brighton, Mich.) in a tie-for-11th thanks to a 216 (E, 69-73-74).
"We battled the weather again today and made a move midway through the round, but just couldn't really put anything together," said head coach
Mike Horn. "We've got to clean up our par five scoring going into the spring and next week. That is the difference between us winning week to week and finishing where we did this week. Overall, good rebound day by
Ian Smith and good rebound today from a tough start for
Andrew Daily. Josh, Max and Mat all were solid, but could not get it going for us to make a move. Good finish for us in a strong field. We still have to learn how to be our best week in and week out."

Through five fall tournaments, Wayne State has amassed an overall record of 62-3, meaning only three teams in those five tournaments finished higher in the standings than the Warriors. WSU still has one tournament to play before flipping the calendar over to the spring season, its own HawksHead Invitational. That event will be played on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19-20 at HawksHead Golf Course in South Haven, Mich.
