GLIAC -- Senior
Tyler Hurtubise (Essex, Ont. / Essex District) and freshman
Claudia Portillo (Madrid, Spain / IES Ortega y Gassett) were named GLIAC Male and Female Golfer of the Week, respectively, on Wednesday, as announced by the league.
Hurtubise's first career GLIAC weekly distinction comes after he took home Medalist Honors in a field of 54 on Tuesday at Wayne State's Motor City Shakedown at TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Mich. Hurtubise earned the first individual title of his career and fifth top-10 placing as a Warrior. The Ontario native carded a 140 (-4, 70-70), the lowest 36-hole total of his career, while the 70 is two shots off his personal best that he set in round three of Hillsdale's Get To Foundation Invitational on Sept. 17.
Portillo received the recognition for not only the second time this season, but second week in a row. Portillo tied-for-seventh among 93 players at Findlay's William Beall Fall Classic on Tuesday at Findlay Country Club in Ohio. The rookie did so thanks to a 218 (+2, 76-71-71) and she's been WSU's top finisher in three of four tournaments so far this season, all of which were top-10 showings. That includes Medalist Honors at the program's inaugural Warrior Invitational on Sept. 23-24.
Wayne State swept the conference's weekly honors for the second time ever joining
Mat Hawryluk (2020-present) and
Inja Fric (2023-24) back on September 26, 2023.
The men will next be in action on Oct. 14-15 at Findlay's Doc Spragg Fall Invitational while the women's next event is their last of the fall, the Davenport Panther Invitational on Oct. 12-13.
