DETROIT -- Jack Julian (South Lyon, Mich.) of the Wayne State University men's golf team was named GLIAC Golfer of the Week for the first time in his career on Wednesday afternoon. The honor comes after back-to-back top-five finishes for the redshirt sophomore.
Starting on Oct. 9-10 at Albion's Marshall Masters (Marshall Country Club), Julian tied-for-second among 45 players with a a three-under 141 (71-70). Just three days later, he found himself on Findlay's Doc Spragg Invitational (Findlay Country Club) All-Tournament Team after placing fourth out of 96 golfers thanks to a six-under 210 (68-72-70). That 68 in the opening round is the lowest 18-hole total of his young career and one of five rounds (out of 12) in which he's shot below par.
Through those 12 rounds of action this season, Julian's scoring average sits at 72.9, including a total of 875 shots taken and two rounds in the 60s, the other being a 69 at the Midwest/Central Regional Preview in Allendale. In the team's five tournaments, he's been among the top 10 for three of them and the top 25 for four.
Julian and his teammates will play their final tournament of the fall on Oct. 19-20 when Wayne State hosts the Motor City Shakedown at West Shore Golf Club in Grosse Ile, Mich.
