Women's Track Concludes Three Days of Competition in California

Christensen posts second-fastest 1500m time in school history.

AZUSA, Calif. -- The Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field squad concluded three days of competition in California by participating in the final day of the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational.

The 4x100m relay placed 25th in a time of 47.20, which ranks fourth in school history. The quartet consisted of freshman Sasha-Gay Thompson (Plymouth/Shantamee, Jamaica / Titchfield), senior Mikaela Owen (Bridgman, Mich.), sophomore Hanne Bastiaansen (Tessenderlo, Belgium / KS Diest), and sophomore Avery Wilson (Davison, Mich.).

Less than an hour later, Wilson finished 70th in the 400m dash crossing the finish line in 57.55.

Bastiaansen clocked in at 12.335 in the 100m dash to place 66th. She later ran the 200m dash and finished 69th with a time of 25.38.

WSU's 4x400m relay group of sophomore Elyse Miller (Woodhaven, Mich. / Gibraltar Carlson), Wilson, junior Renae Kutcha (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi) and redshirt freshman Keneisha Thomas (Madison Heights, Mich. / Lamphere) placed 16th with a time of 3:49.91, which ranks third all-time in school history.

In the 1,500m race, redshirt senior Katherine Ray (Novi, Mich.) crossed the finish line in 4:53.90 to finish 164th in the Open C section.

Redshirt senior Thailyia Christensen (Flushing, Mich.) ran a 4:36.00 for 1500m in the Open B section to place 43rd, while junior Emily Gordon (Northville, Mich.) clocked in at 4:43.95 to finish 110th in the same section. Christensen's time was the second-fastest in school history, just behind Brittany Johnson's school record of 4:30.53 set at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor National Championships.

On the men's side, Ethan Pruzinsky ran the 5K on Saturday in the Open C flight finishing 58th in a time of 14:54.15.

Int he final race of the competition (which began at 2 am Eastern on Sunday morning), the men's Open B flight for 1500m, Tyler Buchanan placed 39th (3:52.05), while Ransom Allen ran a 3:54.57 to finish 78th.
