Women's Diving Shines at Inaugural Detroit Diving Classic

Five Warriors made their season debuts at the three-team event on Saturday.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's diving squad saw its first action of the 2025-26 campaign by hosting the inaugural Detroit Diving Classic inside the Matthaei Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.

WSU was one of three teams competing at the event.  The other two schools were Aquinas from the NAIA ranks and fellow GLIAC member Davenport.

A total of 18 divers were entered into competition across both genders (eight men and 10 women).  Five Warrior student-athletes hit the diving boards on the women's side, including Ariana Heugh (Macomb, Mich. / Dakota), Isla Puzjak (Davison, Mich), Hannah Siebern (Lafayette, Ind. / William Henry Harrison), Alicia Viaches (East Lansing, Mich. / Haslett), and Zoe Wood (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth).

"The first-ever Detroit Diving Classic was a great way to open our season, said head diving coach Jason Trout.  Sophomore Alicia Viaches won the Women's 1-M Championship (11 Dives), followed by Ariana Heugh, Isla Puzjak, and Zoe Wood claiming second through fourth for a Warrior sweep of the top four.  Isla also impressed with a strong second-place finish in the Women's 3-M Championship (11 Dives).  Alicia and Ariana both earned their first of two required national cuts, which is an incredible start this early in the season.  Overall, I am proud of how the team competed and cannot wait to see how we continue to progress throughout the year."
