PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. -- The No. 25 Wayne State University men's golf team has played seven tournaments so far in the 2024-25 season and placed first in six of them. Thursday, the Warriors picked up right where they left off in the fall, winning Ohio Dominican's Pawleys Island Beach Bash by one stroke. WSU (588, +12) bested No. 15 USC Beaufort in second place (589, +13) and No. 16 Gannon in third (+590, +14).
Individually,
Max Leppelmeier (Wauseon, Ohio / Pettisville) captured Medalist Honors for the second time in his career, joining the win at the Dual in Dearborn in October of 2022 as a sophomore. Leppelmeier carded a two-day score of 139 (-5, 68-71), a career low for 36 holes, lowering his previous best by three shots.
"Six out of seven!!!," said head coach
Mike Horn. "Congratulations to Max (Leppelmeier) on his second collegiate win. He battled
Josh DiCarlo all day and came out on top. Congratulations to Max and Josh for making the All-Tournament Team. Also a shout out to
Josh Lahner for winning the putting contest on Tuesday. This was an extremely important win for the team beating Gannon and USC Beaufort, who we never see and are ranked ahead of us. We've got to get everybody going in order to compete at the NCAA Tournament, but this is a very good start."
