NORMAN, Okla. -- Josh DiCarlo (Amherstburg, Ont. / General Amherst),
Tyler Hurtubise (Essex, Ont. / Essex District),
Max Leppelmeier (Wauseon, Ohio / Pettisville) and
Ian Smith (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) of the Wayne State University men's golf team were named 2024-25 Cobalt All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Then, the Warriors were one of 33 Division II programs to garner the GCAA PLATFORM Golf All-Academic Team Award.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
DiCarlo carried a cumulative master's GPA of 3.38 in Automotive Supply Chain Management, Hurtubise boasted a 3.49 in Sport Management, Leppelmeier sported a 3.41 in Management and Smith was responsible for a 3.53 in Marketing. The four of them turned in season scoring averages of 71.6, 73.3, 72.2 and 74.2, respectively. DiCarlo paced the squad in rounds played with 32 (of 33 possible), while Hurtubise and Leppelmeier played in 29, and Smith accounted for 30.
207 NCAA Division II athletes from 78 schools earned 2024-25 Cobalt All-America Scholar honors. Georgia Southwestern, Lander, and Saint Leo led the division with five recipients. 17 other NCAA Division II schools had four recipients, including Anderson (SC), Barton, Colorado Christian, Findlay, Fort Hays State, Harding, Henderson State, Lincoln Memorial, Newberry, Ohio Dominican, Oklahoma Christian, Parkside, Rockhurst, Tiffin, USC Aiken, Valdosta State, and
Wayne State (MI).
Team wise, Wayne State made the "All-Academic" 3.0 cut with a 2024-25 GPA of 3.096. A GCAA-record 292 schools across six divisions earned a PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Award. One hundred twenty-nine (129) schools received Presidents Special Recognition for having an average team GPA of 3.5 or above.
